Starting Salary: $30,027.08- $45,040.61

Job Purpose
The Facilities/Landscape Technician is responsible for the cleaning and general maintenance of Town-owned buildings and facilities, and the general upkeep of Town beautification to include designing, implementing, and maintaining landscapes and gardens on Town property.


Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the Town.

• • Cleans restrooms in various Town buildings by sanitizing and disinfecting walls, doors, toilets, sinks, floors, mirrors, and replenishing supplies such as toilet tissue, paper towels, and soap.
• Cleans and maintains the Town’s public restrooms throughout the year, with substantial focus on maintenance during peak season.
• Cleans a variety of surfaces in elevators, kitchens, break rooms, offices and hallways including: doors, windows, sills, and other surfaces.
• Cleans stairwells and floors located in entryways, hallways, offices, and outside entryways by sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and spot cleaning.
• Cleans furniture and office equipment to include dusting computers, desks and cubicles and disinfecting telephones.
• Disposes of trash by emptying and cleaning trash cans and taking trash to the dumpsters.
• Monitors and reports equipment breakdowns.
• Performs inventory checks, stocks supplies, and delivers supplies.
• Sets up chairs and tables for meetings.
• Reports needed maintenance and repair work and may perform minor maintenance and repair work such as: changing light bulbs, unstopping toilets and drains, hanging pictures, and touch-up painting.
• Maintains trees and shrubs by planting, pruning, trimming, and removing weeds.
• Assists in the design and implementation of landscape plans for Town parks by choosing appropriate landscape features, trees, and plants.
• Ensures that installations comply with landscape plans.
• Assists with special events by transporting and installing special equipment and signage.
• Directs traffic during events.
• Serves as staff representative on the Beautification Committee.
• Works irregular hours including weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.


Education and Experience
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and the ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job such as those listed above.


Licenses and Professional Certifications
• • NC Driver’s License
• Vector Control Class B Pesticide License (within one year of employment)
• Master Gardener (Preferred)


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general maintenance and cleaning techniques; cleaning products and procedures; basic horticulture concepts; landscaping techniques; pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers; pruning and trimming techniques; grass varieties; and general safety practices.

Skilled in driving a vehicle; operating various cleaning equipment; using hand and power tools; spreading grass seed; removing weeds; identifying plants; planting trees and shrubs; transporting and installing landscape materials cleaning and sanitizing surfaces; and communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Ability to represent the Town in a professional and respectful manner while interacting with a diverse set of individuals within the workplace and the community.

Working Conditions
Employee is generally subject to inside environmental conditions having the lighting, temperature, and noise of an open floor-plan office environment. Employee is also exposed to outdoor conditions and may be frequently exposed to weather elements including rain, wind, varying temperatures, etc. In addition, the employee must effectively deal with personal danger, which may include exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials, fumes and smoke, intense heat, electrical hazards, confined or high work places, dangerous animals, extremely loud noises, hazards of working in and near traffic, and natural and man-made disasters.



Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to interact with others in person, over the phone, and via other devices. The employee may move about within various facilities to access file cabinets, documents, office machinery, and other equipment. Travel is required daily to outside sites in order to perform the duties described above, as well as to attend meetings, training, events, and other business activities. Work may require walking, standing, bending, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, and/or moving equipment, pushing and pulling various objects, climbing stairs, and ladders, and operating assigned equipment including motor vehicles. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
