Position Description

Position: Part-Time/Seasonal from May to September
Salary: $10.00 per hour
Hours: Minimum of 16 hours per week
Work Schedule: Work is performed on weekdays, weekends, and holidays


Job Purpose
The Facilities Attendant is responsible for the cleaning and general maintenance of bathroom facilities at Town parks and public beach accesses.


Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the Town.
• Cleans restrooms at various Town locations by sanitizing and disinfecting walls, doors, toilets, sinks, floors, mirrors.
• Disposes of trash by emptying and cleaning trash cans and taking trash to the dumpsters.
• Monitors and reports equipment breakdowns and maintenance needs.
• Performs inventory checks and stocks supplies such as toilet tissue, paper towels, and soap.
• Performs minor maintenance and repair work such as changing light bulbs and unstopping toilets and drains as needed.
• Works a non-traditional schedule including weekends and holidays.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.


Education and Experience
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and the ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job such as those listed above.


Licenses and Professional Certifications
• NC Driver’s License


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general maintenance techniques; cleaning products and procedures; and safety and security issues.

Skilled in driving a vehicle; operating various cleaning equipment; using hand tools; cleaning and sanitizing surfaces; and communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Ability to represent the Town in a professional and respectful manner while interacting with a diverse set of individuals within the workplace and the community.


Working Conditions
Employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. When indoors, employee will be exposed to the lighting, temperature, and noise of an office setting. When outdoors, employee may be frequently exposed to insects, dirt, grass, and weather elements including rain, wind, varying temperatures, etc. In addition, the employee must effectively deal with personal danger, which may include exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials, fumes, intense heat, electrical hazards, confined or high work places, extremely loud noises, hazards of working in and near traffic, and natural and man-made disasters.


Physical Requirements
The employee must read and write, and interact with others in person, over the phone, and via other devices. The employee may move about within various facilities to access supplies and other equipment. Travel is required daily to outside sites in order to perform the duties described above. Work may require walking, standing, bending, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, and/or moving equipment, pushing and pulling various objects, climbing stairs and ladders, and operating assigned equipment including motor vehicles. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
